And God separated the light from the darkness. Whenever it is used, it refers to the authority of the person being spoken of— not to some second person under whose authority he or she is.

The only time the word for authority exousia is used in the New Testament in the context of marriage is in 1 Corinthians 7: Paul, therefore, needed to address this issue in the church at Corinth, which would have had both Jewish and Gentile members.
